Abrasive diamonds are often used with smaller drill bits; this makes it so the drill bit grinds a hole into the material instead of cutting a hole into it. A chisel cutting edge or a huge drill bit with hard sharp teeth on the end of it are used in oil well drilling.

Some holes can be created by the use of fusion drilling which uses an oxyacetylene torch to melt or flake the material away making a hole. There are electromagnetic drill presses available for remote metal drilling. These are very portable and easy to carry as they are small and relatively light. Micro and mini drill presses are the best way to go about drilling into a fixed stand.
